Includes some black and white photos and several charts and graphs. Margaret Morse Nice was an incredibly gifted naturalist and pain-staking research scientist all rolled into one human being. The work she did, as reported on in these two volumes on one species of sparrow, the Song Sparrow (Melospiza melodia), was truly monumental. Keep in mind when contemplating the purchase of these two volumes, that Prof. Nice was writing as a researcher and the books are quite detailed and "scientific". They are really more for an ornithologist, or ornithologist-to-be, and not for an amateur birder, unless that birder is themselves passionate about research as was this author.
